The lecture series “Science – Media – Communication” was inaugurated on February 26, 2026, launching a new initiative of the Committee devoted to the issues of communicating science and communication about science.
The opening meeting brought together a large group of Committee members. It was also attended by representatives of the Academy’s broader institutional environment engaged in the field of science communication, including individuals responsible for media support and the organizational coordination of the institution’s activities. Their presence underscored the practical dimension of the initiative and highlighted the importance of cooperation between researchers and communication professionals.
The program of the first meeting featured two lectures. Professor Iwona Hofman, Chair of the Committee of Communication and Media Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, presented science communication as a process shaped by social and institutional conditions, embedded in specific norms, organizational structures, and cultural contexts. Professor Igor Borkowski then addressed the phenomenon of the mediatization of science, pointing to the changing relationships between the research community, the media, and public debate.
The project, addressed to members of scientific and problem-oriented committees, aims to develop a shared conceptual vocabulary and interpretative frameworks for analyzing the relationships between the world of science, the media, and the public sphere, while also strengthening communicative competences in everyday institutional practice.
