The 7th Meeting of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Public Media in the Post-Television Era

On 16 December 2024, the 7th meeting of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was held online, with the participation of Committee members and external experts. The meeting had both an organizational and a scholarly character. In its opening part, the Chair of the Committee, Prof. Iwona Hofman, welcomed the newly appointed external experts who had joined the thematic sections, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the research conducted within the Committee.

The central point of the meeting was the presentation of the book Public Media in the Post-Television Era by Prof. Stanisław Jędrzejewski (Poltext Publishing House, Warsaw 2024), followed by a discussion on the condition and future of public media in the context of technological convergence, digitalization, and the development of artificial intelligence. The author outlined the key challenges facing public broadcasters, including regulatory, financial, and organizational issues, as well as problems of public trust, disinformation, and the need to adapt programming to multi-platform audience practices. The discussion confirmed the timeliness and relevance of these issues for media studies research and public debate.

In the section devoted to current matters, issues such as research on the status of academic media in Poland and their role in teaching and scholarly activity were also addressed. The meeting concluded with the announcement of further research and organizational initiatives of the Committee, along with holiday greetings extended to its members and experts.
