Meeting of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Regulations, Problem Sections, and Awards
On 22 April 2024, the 3rd meeting of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was held online under the chairmanship of Prof. Iwona Hofman. The key item on the agenda was the unanimous adoption of the Regulations of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2024–2027 term, which define the framework for the Committee’s operation during the current term and constitute the basis for its organizational and expert activities.
A significant part of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of the structure and scope of activity of the Committee’s problem sections. A list of six sections was established, covering key areas of media and communication research, and work was announced on standardizing their subject descriptions and tasks. At the same time, decisions were taken to further strengthen the sections’ expert base by involving researchers from outside the Committee’s membership, which is intended to foster greater integration of the scholarly community and to deepen the interdisciplinary character of the work undertaken.
During the meeting, a permanent Committee Awards Commission was also appointed, with Prof. Janusz Adamowski named as its Chair, and its composition and responsibilities were discussed. In the section devoted to current matters, Prof. Iwona Hofman presented information on planned meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and on activities aimed at strengthening the position of the discipline of social communication and media sciences, including in the context of the National Science Centre. The meeting concluded with the announcement of the next, in-person meeting of the Committee, scheduled for June 2024.
